Emre Abut creates (moving) images, sound collages, and performative interventions that explore how contemporary subjectivities emerge and agency is shaped. A controversial negotiation of identity and identities runs like a red thread through his works. This takes different forms, styles and gestures. A latest manifestation is the the recent co-founding of the association working title - space for new narratives, with which he is developing a concrete cultural political and curatorial practice in the realm of anti-racist and discriminatory critical arts.
He studied at the Folkwang University of Arts and at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts Istanbul and later at the Timebased Media and Performance Class under direction of Prof. Ming Wong at the Universtity of Arts Berlin. He also holds a postgraduate Master of Art in Context from the University of Arts Berlin (UdK). Emre Abut lives and works in Berlin and the Ruhr Area.
